Used Palettes

I was inspired by another fellow artist when I visited his studio and saw his ‘discard pile’ of oil paints. He appeared to scrape the paint off his palette and continue to pile it on a board, making a massive mountain of used paint.

I like this idea, mostly because it solved the problem of “what do do with old paint” as well as (sort of) creating a record of paintings that were made. I had multiple scrap pieces of plywood that I had found in an alley in The Fan that I was saving for something, but didn’t know what.

The result is a form of record of paints that were used for various paintings at the time they were made. They’re a random side-effect, bounded by combining colors that were intended for another painting.
