Waiting is not something that people seem to like to do. Maybe it’s just the culture that I’m in. Maybe there are even different waiting times for different things that are acceptable within a given culture. Watching people wait for their luggage at the airport baggage claim after they have waited to deboard a plan, after waiting to arrive, after waiting to board, after waiting to go through the tsa security line shows me that people are capable of waiting. Put the same person in the third car in line for a red light that just turned green and the person at the front hasn’t let off their brakes for 3 seconds, and you will find an irrate and impatient person.
These drawings are my way of managing the wait time for my job as a chauffeur. For a while, I only had my pen and paycheck stubs on me for supplies. The view was whatever I was sitting in front of. Drawing while waiting has the added advantage that I have to look up and observe my surroundings, so I’m not disappearing into the abyss of my phone.
