Paul Vivier invites you to an open house event at his Bellevue residence and studio at 1219 Stanhope Ave in Richmond’s Northside. Featured work will include new oil paintings both large and small, small gouache paintings and a retrospective of older work. Recent subjects include the Richmond South Quarry, Bellevue neighborhood, Rt 360 at Meherrin, and flora from his garden.
I was given an opportunity this past year to spend time focusing on painting, going much deeper than I have been able to go in the past. This challenged me to find continuous threads of inspiration and tap into the dedication required to paint often. I started with subjects closest to me, my Bellevue neighborhood, expanded to unnoticed sites on routine drives and landed hard on the grand task of visually exploring the hidden canyon of the Richmond South quarry. I then circled back to a common theme for me: flowers from my garden. With these paintings I’ve also limited my palette to more subdued and traditional colors with the desire of challenging my observation and color mixing skills.
