I used to travel up and down Rt 58 in Patrick County every single day when I was in high school. Some sundays too, if we went to church. The bus trip was 90 minutes, and took two buses. One bus was between the high school and the elementary school, and the second bus took the back roads to take us home. Unfortunately for me, I was prone to road sickness, and riding on a mountain wasn’t helpful. Riding a bus though, was helpful. So was sleeping. Sleeping could sometimes be interrupted by the hooligans behind me that would flick my ears, or head. Having a good friend sit with me, that was also a football player, helped to keep it down to a minimum.
Recently, they’ve decided to straighten the road. I’m not sure if it was really worth the $300 million dollars, just to save on car sickness, but I guess tax dollars have to be spent somewhere. I wanted to capture this middle-state where it still looked like the old, but the new was apparent and in progress.
